LUXURIOUS BEDROOMS IN MOUNT TOMAH
This inspiring renovation saw a complete transformation from the original rendered brick, tile and gyprock house into a warm and stylish home inspired by modern mid-century design. Upon purchasing, our clients saw loads of potential and ‘good bones’ which allowed them to bravely execute unique and creative ideas adding layers of warmth and texture, with the support of Thornton & Blake Director of Decoration, Anne Hogarth. For the intimately appointed bedrooms, the opportunity arose to create opulent, warm and cosy spaces, reminiscent of a luxurious hotel, perfect for chilly Blue Mountains evenings.
The master bedroom is bathed in light with large floor to ceiling windows which take in the views of the expansive property. Our clients and Anne began with a textured grass cloth wallcovering to create a feature wall that also works to anchor the bed. The client had a unique idea to hang the paper sideways… whilst our wall paperer scratched his head wondering how he could execute the idea, Anne could see the brilliance of his suggestion, for the use of the textured lines in a vertical manner creates the illusion of a taller ceiling.
The windows were then warmed with layers of sheer Mokum linen curtains softening the space with their light fibrous texture and warm shade of blush. To finish the space our client selected two ‘pebble’ lights, which were hung either side of the bed, adding sculptural layers to the interior design.
In the guest bedroom, once again wallpaper was used to create a feature wall. This time leaning into the textural cork wall covering with a metallic pewter effect, which reflects ever-changing light influenced by the time of day.
This was paired with the clients existing luxurious and heavy curtains in which offer further warmth and a stately opulence, once again ensuring full light blackout and thermal protection from the extreme climate. Finally, a rug with a larger block pattern covers the smaller grain of the Fibonacci stone terrazzo style tile flooring which is used throughout the house. In this case, pairing a larger block pattern over the intricate grain of the flooring successfully layers the patterns and textures without them competing. Choosing a round rug offered a better fit for the positioning near the entry door.
Finally, stepping inside the client’s office space Baresque natural gold sisal fibre wallpaper covers the dominant wall, its a metallic background reflecting light into the intimate space. Anne worked closely with her client in specifying a natural stone top for the sideboard, reminiscent of mid-century design, beautifully blending with the furniture throughout the home.
