A LUXURIOUS LIVING SPACE FOR A WINMALEE FAMILY HOME
Thornton & Blake’s Winmalee clients are maximalists with a love for colour, texture, pattern and metallic ‘bling’. Our clients share this beautiful split-level family home with their daughter and extended family. For this project Interior Designer Fiona Harding saw the opportunity to create a living space that incorporated two zones: one for reading and conversation, the other designed as a media space, allowing space for this large family to ‘do their own thing’ in the one expansive space.
Beginning with the colour palette, Fiona drew on jewel tones emerald, sapphire and amethyst, grounded by chocolate brown walls and reflections of metallic tones throughout, adding dimension and warmth. The inclusion of European oak herringbone flooring in dark chocolate provides a sense of opulence and interest, while simultaneously adding the illusion of space.`
Along the Northern wall, luxurious truffle toned grass cloth wallpaper is paired with blackout curtains crafted from silk-like ‘Mokum Maharaja’ in ochre. By specifying custom bronze rods to hang the curtains high above the window frames, the ceiling height is accentuated, further enhancing the luxurious feel of this central space. Contemporary ‘pan’ wall sconces in bronze emit a low-level light, perfect for watching a film, day or night.
To add contrast and light, the opposite wall is finished with Harlequin Suni wallpaper in Linen/Copper. The clever use of wallpaper for the stairs adds a sense of depth, as the stairs recede into the wall.
For the media area, custom cabinetry makes consideration for a mounted flatscreen. The space is also styled with a Cocoon lamp to provide soft, ambient lighting. The ultimate in family comfort, a Molmic Daydream loose slip modular covered in the textured Wortley Hudson fabric in jewel colourway is styled with the contrast of Catherine Martin Tiger print cushions and a wood Safire rug. The finished area not only offers layers of softness but also boasts the convenience of easy wash and wear covers on the Molmic sofa. `
For the conversation/reading area a two-seater Molmic Alfie is covered in a beautiful, midnight toned embroidered souk pattern. Accompanying twin velvet Molmic ‘Jasper’ single seaters covered in the richness of velvet ‘Wilbury Novona’ in Galaxy. These petit chairs are finished with Cassomance velvet piping in petrol, accentuating their unique, curvaceous shape. Each seat is dressed in Catherine Martin Panthera Cushions, continuing the jungle theme from the Media zone. Finally, a Halo lamp is positioned above the space, perfect for reading a book, or to complete homework on the cleverly designed, custom crafted coffee table-come-ottoman beneath.
