THREE LUXURIOUS BEDROOMS FOR A LEURA WEATHERBOARD RETREAT
Interior Designer Fiona Harding gladly accepted the honour to redesign the full Interior of this Leura Weatherboard home. Opulence and luxury were important factors to consider for this retreat property, with three bedrooms, formal lounge and living dining spaces. This week we explore the three bedrooms of this beautiful period style home, with layers of texture and pattern come into play.
Beginning with the Master bedroom, an opportunity to install a stunning Bloomingdales light from the traditional pressed ceilings was presented. Crafted from Alabaster and Brass, this stunning light was accompanied by two reading table lights, crafted from the same unique blend of materials by Bloomingdales.
The walls were dressed in Porter’s grass cloth wallpaper, working in with the panelling on the walls, with their almost metallic reflection, one cannot help but feel as though they are stepping into a 5-star hotel as they enter the room. The colour of the existing wall panelling was customised by Thornton & Blakes very own in-house paint team to ensure it blended perfectly with the wallpaper.
The bay window is dressed in layers of textiles, beginning with sheers, to offer privacy from the street front, followed by luxurious, embroidered silk in a pattern reminiscent of the Mountainscape which can be viewed from nearby.
For the custom-crafted bedhead, Fiona selected a print which emulated the same, nearby textural rock formations, ensuring the design of the space was both cohesive and interesting.
Finally, the space was finished with bed linens, hand-crafted velvet custom cushions and side tables with an interesting black curved fronts and rattan tops.
Moving into the two guest bedrooms, the existing wall colour and lights remain. The bedheads once again hand-crafted with a rich velvet textile, with detailed piping that pair beautifully with the custom-made velvet cushions.
For each of the bedrooms Mokum ‘Sakura’ printed textiles were chosen for the windows in different tones, ensuring a cohesive design between both spaces. ‘Sakura’, translating as ‘Cherry Blossom’ bringing nature’s elements into the tranquil, light-filled bedrooms. As the windows are north facing, it was important to choose a style and textile which would offer full block-out and thermal capabilities. In the first bedroom, Fiona opted for a roman style blind and adjoining bedroom full length drape. Professionally fitted curtains ensures that the spaces are protected from potential drafts which may enter from the old, timber windows.
Once again, the client of this beautiful home called on the design eye of Interior Designer Fiona to source and purchase bedside tables, reading lamps and bed linens to finish each of the rooms.
