A BRIGHT & FRESH KITCHEN & LIVING SPACE IN FAULCONBRIDGE

Stepping into the newly renovated kitchen and living spaces of this Faulconbridge home, immediately brings a renewed sense of retreat. For this project, the brief was to design the formal dining room as well as kitchen and casual living space including lighting, rug and soft furnishings. The client is drawn to a fresh coastal aesthetic, which needed to sit comfortably in the local Australian Bushland setting, so Fiona delivered to brief, with a Blue Mountains Twist.

The resulting design was all about balance, with striking features of blue contrasted on the freshness of white, paired with interesting elements black iron, gold metallic, whitewashed timbers, wicker and wallpaper. Through the use of vibrant, flora and fauna prints in complimentary blues, local blue mountains elements were included thoughtfully into the spaces.

Beginning with the kitchen, a slimline shaker cabinetry profile adds modernity to a typically traditional rustic style of door, in sympathy with the modern age of the Faulconbridge Home. Through the use of textured subway tiles, laid in a herringbone pattern, depth and interest was added to the primarily white colour scheme of the space.

The island cabinetry was sprayed in Porters Blue Steel which balances the blue feature walls and barn door, whilst adding depth and leaning into the clients love for coastal design. With loads of cabinetry, including the adjoining butler’s kitchen and island bench, modern day design meets functionality for convenient, ease and pleasure of use.

Stone bench tops bridge the design across the two different cabinetry styles.

Though the addition of gold tap ware and gold handles for the cabinetry the tone of this beautiful space is lifted, providing elegance and warmth against the classic style statement light above the kitchen bench, which features a beautiful pairing of black industrial iron with gold metallic globe inserts. The same feature light hangs above the dining table to provide uniformity in the intimate space. By choosing a framed design, which offers transparency, the illusion of space is created as you can still view the room through the light.

Timber look vinyl flooring was a non-invasive way to update the dated tile flooring, whilst maintaining integrity and durability for high traffic areas. We love that vinyl flooring is soft and warm underfoot, particularly during cold winter mornings without the expense of timber flooring.

For the furnishings, Fiona saw the opportunity to insert her signature design, a beautifully covered custom armchair featuring an organic ginko leaf print, once again, bringing the flora theme into play.

Moving into the formal dining space, ‘Maharani’ Wallpaper by Porters adds a sense of movement and intimacy to the dining table. An elegant timber beaded chandelier features above the dining table, giving further texture and a sense of grandeur, without dominating the space. Using colour and pattern creates a natural journey which bridges the two spaces together, creating harmony within the whole home.
