MOUNTAIN ELEGANCE: BLACKHEATH LOUNGE & BEDROOM INTERIOR DESIGN

Perched at the edge of the beautiful Blue Mountains Bushland, this picturesque property provides a much loved retreat from busy careers for our Blackheath clients. A modern take on a traditional cottage, the brief was simple but strong interiors with space for some favourite vintage pieces which they would like to incorporate into the design, with the colours of the lounge space in particular, centred around a landscape by local Artist, Rowen Matthews.

As you enter, the fireplace immediately steals the show, set in a stunning composition of natural stone, reflective of the Australian bushland backdrop viewed from surrounding windows. Hard at work the ADF linear fireplace delivers a comforting warmth that envelopes us as we enter from the chilly Winters Day outside.

The dark elegance of Dulux Antarctic Deep features on the walls surrounding the beautiful stone fireplace, adding contrast and allowing the lines of the stone to express their natural beauty.

Tiles were thoughtfully laid into the custom shelving to ensure the firewood doesn’t scratch the surface as it is stored each winter.

A collection of Molmic custom crafted sofas were designed in complimentary textiles to add depth and interest to the space. By using a different print on the arm chairs, a sense of space and curated design is created. Two ‘Cupid’ armchairs in a James Dunlop woven print were paired with a Shona modular sofa in a dark commercial grade textured weave, to withstand wear and tear from paws and claws of the clients much loved furry family members.

For the windows, blockout curtains in a linen blend were hung high and wide, which creates elegance, space and more effective thermal protection for the traditional timber windows and french doors.

Moving into the Master bedroom, Dulux ‘String Deep’ was used on the walls, creating a calming space and symbiotic extension of the natural aspect outside. Use of Natural white for the architraves, windows and doors gives a softer finish, rather than using the contrast of a bright white. This adds to the calmness of the bedroom.

A beautiful bay window overlooks the peaceful bushland aspect and holds key focal point of the space. The client was drawn towards the Slender Morris fabric which works perfectly for roman blinds, adding a pattern that works harmoniously with the landscape views outside, whilst adding a traditional, vintage touch with it’s Art Nouvea Custom cushions in a range of different textiles give depth to the space, whilst bridging the interior design with the bed. The seat of the bay window was kept in a natural white to allow the printed roman blinds to take focus.

A sense of luxury was added with the addition of a tufted bedhead in a charcoal weave, giving a somewhat neutral palette to allow for flexibility of styling with bed linens throughout the changing seasons.
