SOPHISTICATION & ELEGANT INTERIOR DESIGN FOR A WENTWORTH FALLS HOME
Stepping inside this modern-built Blue Mountains weather board, you are immediately met with a beautiful, spacious floorplan that capitalises on picturesque views of the adjoining golf course. Our Wentworth Falls client approached Thornton & Blake Interior Designer Fiona Harding with a brief of light, bright and feminine, with a heavy touch of glam for the family of girls and two very loved felines to enjoy. Drawing on a Gia Coppola print of Sunset Boulevarde for inspiration, the interior design centres around a Palm Springs palette of fresh, soft pastels with metallic notes. With the soft, feminine and elegant brief in mind, it was also important that the soft finishes chosen for the home were hardwearing, easy clean and forgiving of the high use these living spaces endure.
Beginning with the wall colours, Fiona specified Dulux Modern White. By using a matt finish on the walls with the windows and timber wainscoting in a semi-gloss using the same colour, this contemporary application of colour ensures a seamless application, whilst offering a a subtle feature of the windows, skirts and door frames.
The eastern facing living space adjoining the kitchen is fitted with a casual lounge area and dining room. Fiona supported with loose cover sofas for easy laundering in this highly used area, notably by the resident felines.
Throughout the home, the window furnishings contribute to a cohesive interior design, featuring a uniform design of custom-made Roman blinds crafted from a highly durable linen-look chino textile. Selecting a linen-look fabric helps the blinds maintain their structure and shape in the fluctuating climate of the Blue Mountains, while still providing the organic texture and visual softness associated with natural fibres. This combination ensures both aesthetic appeal and long-term durability, protecting the client’s investment.
For the dining space, the use of a timber table bridges the interior design with the stunning tree-lined outlook, softened by comfortable natural white fabric armchairs, perfect for long winter lunches and family dinners. Above the dining table, a feature modern glass chandelier takes focus offering elegance and sophistication. Crafted from hanging glass loops, this is a mid-century take on a traditional chandelier disperses mesmerising reflections of light onto the walls as the sun sets, bringing day to night.
The adjoining lounge space features a huge Molmic daydream sofa, the perfect modular for the family to enjoy movies together. With removable slip covers covered in a luxe silver and pastel textured chenille, this sofa is not only durable and easy clean, but also offers a sympathetic solution to the daily wear that a family with children and pets inevitably brings. Custom made cushions crafted from velvet in the palm springs palette add splashes of colour, along with the Molmic armchair covered in champagne pink linen.
Strong metallic finishes bring a sense of sparkle and celebration to this feminine space, with the antique mirrored coffee table and mirrored mosaic side table placed upon the plush 20-millimetre pile rug. This ultra-plush rug is crafted from a poly blend, ensuring durability, easy cleanability and structure for this busy living space.
Abstract artworks specified for the interior design offer a sense of movement, texture and interest to the modern white walls, bringing colour and a touch of glam with their custom silver metallic frames.
